DMX systems include 512 channels known together as the universe. Each channel controls different light fixture parameters such as intensity, rotation, or color. You adjust the values in each channel by changing the data values, which range from 0 to 255. The higher the data value, the more significant the function.
DMX controllers transmit the digital signals that trigger changes in the light fixtures. If you ever want to reuse lighting conditions for a particular event, you can save the settings you create for a fixture as a scene. The DMX controller plays back the scene, and for further customization, you can string together scenes in a sequence known as a chase.
